Spaces to Grow: Designing Thoughtful Children’s Rooms
Designing children’s rooms has always held a special place for us. It is an area of the home where creativity can unfold in the most natural and joyful way, while still being approached with the same level of intention and refinement as any other space. We deeply enjoy the process, not only because it allows for a more playful expression, but because it carries such meaning, these are the spaces where memories are formed, where imagination grows, and where comfort and security are essential. In our approach, we often gravitate toward soft hues and earthy tones, palettes that feel calming yet warm, allowing the room to remain serene while still reflecting a child’s personality. The balance lies in blending their world of curiosity and character with a considered aesthetic, creating a space that feels both beautiful and enduring.
One of the most important aspects we consider is how the room can evolve over time. Children grow quickly, and their environments should be able to adapt with them. We often begin with a more neutral yet still youthful base, something that feels gentle and timeless, and then layer in personality through art, decorative elements, cushions, and textiles. These are the pieces that can shift as interests change, allowing the room to transform without the need for a complete redesign. It creates a sense of flexibility while maintaining a cohesive foundation, ensuring the space remains relevant and loved through different stages of childhood.

Furniture choices are equally considered, balancing function with comfort and longevity. We believe in selecting a bed that allows for shared moments, something large enough to sit or lie on together, whether for reading, resting, or simply spending time. Seating areas, desks, or small study spaces become increasingly important as children grow, and integrating technology where appropriate can also be thoughtfully incorporated. Storage, however, is always essential, not only for organisation, but to allow the space to feel calm and uncluttered. Within this, there is also room for creativity, from beautifully designed bunk beds to more imaginative, almost architectural play elements. In children’s spaces, the possibilities feel endless, and we embrace that sense of freedom while ensuring everything remains refined and well considered.

We are also continually inspired by the evolving world of suppliers and artisans dedicated to children’s interiors. There is now an incredible selection of wallpapers, materials, and furniture that bring both sophistication and playfulness into these spaces. We have always loved the softness of a cloud light, and recently designed an in house flower cloud installation with a soft ceiling for a baby girl, creating an environment that felt both whimsical and calming. The range of fabrics available is equally inspiring, offering textures and patterns that can completely transform a room while still aligning with a more elevated design language. It is this combination, thoughtful design, quality materials, and a sense of imagination, that allows children’s rooms to feel truly special, spaces that are not only beautiful, but deeply personal and full of life.
